Photographer's Statement - Thomas Martin Eads |
|||
| A photonic evocateur thinks that his electromagnetic questions are gentle, like a lover’s hand, tracing contours, making beauty sensate. |
Above: the photographer and "St. George Sound West" at Ron Sachs Communication in Tallahassee. A successful installation scales images to complement architecture. Framing, done by the photographer, uses natural wood moulding (Studio), micro-etched low reflectance glass (Crescent), and archival matboard (Bainbridge Artcare). These choices reinforce the open, natural feel of this conference room. Frame size 60"Wx45"H. |

| But what is revealed depends on the state of the object of his visual interest, changing as internal and external forces play out, even as the observational force - illumination - is applied. Deceptive, these images, revealing structure but only hinting at function and dynamics. They suggest that a scene is "out there", its properties fixed. But that place will never be the same. And these images never show how embedded the photographer really is: interacting, exchanging mass and energy, integrated with the world. They don't show the photographer making choices at every stage of transformation from photons to print, choices whose effect on you is intentional. | |||
| Unity and abundance are stronger notions than separation and deficit. If my skill is sufficient, and you are receptive, you will see that the image, a metaphor, refers back to you: the one who has been interacting, exchanging mass and energy, integrated with the world all along. | |||
| The photonic evocateur will be fluid, compliant, quiet, and attuned. He hopes that his images, the answers to the questions he posed, report to you a hint of the mystery out there, so you may position yourself appropriately. | |||
